Every year since its inception in 2000, Pantone has been selecting a colour they believe will embody the upcoming year. Each year’s colour is chosen based on cultural influences from areas like entertainment, design, fashion, lifestyles and socio-economic conditions to be used by designers and creators alike to stay on trend and create future design concepts. This year, however, Pantone did not select an existing colour and instead chose to create an entirely new hue called “Very Peri”. This Periwinkle hue has vibrant violet-red undertones that represent a new perspective while also encompassing some of the imaginative and inspirational qualities of the colour blue.
Pantone believes Very Peri symbolizes the rapid changes we have experienced and continue to experience as we transition to a new world. According to Pantone, “Very Peri illustrates the fusion of modern life and how colour trends in the digital world are being manifested in the physical world and vice versa.”
There are plenty of flowers with Very Peri Hues like Mardi Gras Asters, Purple Seafoam Statice, Hydrangea, Anemone, Campanula, Iris, Muscari, Freesia, and more.
Here are some floral designs using 2022’s newly created colour, Very Peri, to help inspire you.
