While the colour blue is a ubiquitous colour in our world, natural blue flowers only account for 10 percent of blooms. However, a recent development might change that.
We have some exciting news – natural blue flowers are here! After years of testing, one of our flower growers has developed a new chrysanthemum called “BluOcean.” This is a new line of flowers that have been bred to feature incredible blue hues. The grower’s press release states, “The teams worked tirelessly to develop a chrysanthemum with an enchanting blue hue, previously unseen in nature.”
We expect these to be trendy flowers globally, which could limit their supply. Nonetheless, expect to see them in our coolers and work with your Fresh Flower CSRs to bring them into your shop.

The BluOcean Chrysanthemum Varieties
Bluest of all the BluOcean™ chrysanthemums. An open-center cushion or novelty semi-double with a beautiful light green center. Its large blooms sometimes display soft tubular or quill-shaped petals.
A dark purple colour that changes to light violet-blue during vase life. It’s a cushion-type pom-pom chrysanthemum with a daisy-like shape and button-type center.
Deep, rich purple. This flower is the darkest of the BluOcean™ series. It is a decorative novelty pom-pom chrysanthemum. Contrasting colours are the Opal and Sapphire varieties.
Lavender blue with a light lime-coloured center. This chrysanthemum has a large bloom diameter. It is an open-center cushion, novelty semi-double. Petals sometimes have a tubular or quill shape.
A decorative novelty chrysanthemum that is a light violet-blue tone. Very close to Florigene Moonlite.
